Infrastructure & Facilities
The Department of Mechanical Engineering is supported by state-of-the-art laboratories, modern classrooms with smart boards and multimedia projectors, well-furnished staff cubicles with LAN/Wi-Fi/intercom, a dedicated project hall and a department library with 800+ technical volumes. Clean RO-UV drinking water is available on every floor. The facilities span the full breadth of the Mechanical curriculum — from materials testing and manufacturing to thermal, design, CAD/CAM and project work.

Engineering Graphics Laboratory
Shared first-year facility for all engineering branches, used to teach the fundamentals of engineering drawing through Solid Edge. The lab is equipped with Dell desktops on LAN, an Epson multimedia projector and a smart board, with individual workstations for every student.

Material Testing Laboratory
Supports experimental study of mechanical properties of engineering materials. Major equipment includes Vickers / Brinell / Rockwell hardness testers, Impact, Torsion, Fatigue and Wear testing machines, a 60-ton Universal Testing Machine, magnetic crack detector, ultrasonic flaw detector, single-disc polishing machine, dye-penetrant tester and a metallographic inverted microscope.
Machine Shop / Manufacturing Laboratory
Hands-on training in conventional machining operations on lathes, milling, drilling, grinding and shaping machines. Equipment includes all-geared lathe machines, shaping machine, drilling machine, milling machine, bench grinding machine and hand cutting machine, used to fabricate metal work-pieces from given drawings.
Foundry & Forging Laboratory
Exposes students to sand-moulding processes, properties of moulding sands and hot-working of metals. Major equipment includes Universal Sand Testing Machine with attachments, sieve shaker, rapid moisture tester, permeability meter, hardness tester, clay-content tester, specimen drier with digital temperature indicator, electronic balance, muffle furnace, centrifugal blower with motor and a smithy furnace.
Mechanical Measurements & Metrology Laboratory
Covers measurement techniques, calibration and quality-control standards. Equipment includes calibration setups for pressure gauge, thermocouple, LVDT and load cell, autocollimator, sine bar & sine centre, bevel protractor, gear-tooth micrometer, lathe & drill tool dynamometers, slip-gauge box, mechanical comparator, floating-carriage micrometer and magnetic stand with dial gauge.
Fluid Mechanics & Machinery Laboratory
Used for experiments on fluid properties and performance testing of hydraulic machines. Major equipment includes Pelton & Francis turbine test rigs, centrifugal pump test rig, centrifugal air blower, two-stage reciprocating air compressor test rig, impact-of-jet apparatus, Venturimeter & orifice apparatus, pipe-friction setup, nozzle apparatus, minor-losses setup, V-notch apparatus and a reciprocating pump test rig.
Energy Conversion (IC Engines) Laboratory
Supports testing of fuels, lubricants and internal-combustion engines. Equipment includes flash & fire point apparatus, viscometers, planimeter, digital bomb calorimeter, Boy's gas calorimeter, 2-stroke and 4-stroke single-cylinder petrol and diesel engine test rigs, a variable-compression-ratio (VCR) petrol engine test rig, multi-cylinder petrol engine test rig and valve / port timing diagram setups.
Heat Transfer & Refrigeration Laboratory
Used for experiments on conduction, convection and radiation along with performance testing of refrigeration and air-conditioning systems. Equipment includes thermal-conductivity apparatus, composite-wall heat-transfer setup, natural & forced convection rigs, pin-fin apparatus, emissivity setup, Stefan-Boltzmann apparatus, parallel & counter-flow heat exchanger, drop/film condensation apparatus, transient-conduction setup, vapour-compression refrigeration test rig and a vapour-compression air-conditioning test rig.
Modelling & Analysis (CAD/CAE) Laboratory
Networked computer lab for solid modelling and finite-element analysis using industry-standard tools. Workstations are loaded with FEA workbenches (Static Structural, Thermal, Modal, Harmonic) running on Dell Optiplex desktops, supported by an Epson LCD projector for live demonstrations.
CNC, Robotics & Automation Laboratory
Final-year facility for CNC part-programming and simulation, with exposure to Flexible Manufacturing Systems, Robotics and Hydraulic & Pneumatic systems. Equipped with Dell Optiplex desktops, simulation software and an Epson LCD projector.
Design & Dynamics Laboratory
Used by final-year students for experiments on machine dynamics, stress analysis and vibrating systems. Major equipment includes journal bearing apparatus, principal stress & strain setup, balancing of rotating masses apparatus, vibration studies setup, whirling-of-shaft apparatus, motorised gyroscope, curved-beam apparatus, polariscope and universal governor apparatus.
Project Laboratory
Dedicated space for final-year project fabrication covering fitting, welding and sheet-metal work. Equipment includes bench vices, leg vice, fitting tools, arc-welding machine and sheet-metal tools, along with general-purpose engineering tools.
Department Library
The department library houses 800+ volumes across thermal, design, manufacturing, materials and industrial engineering, along with reference books, lab manuals, project reports and selected journals available for student and faculty reference.
